VIVIENNE WESTWOOD STOLE MY HEART - AGAIN

March 26, 2015

So last week I was lucky enough to get an invite to the St Davids Shopping Centre Spring/Summer 2015 bloggers event. It was at the lovely Wahaca, which weirdly as a self-proclaimed Mexican food addict I had never been to before! But I mainly put that down to the popularity of it, it is always pretty much impossible to get a table there so it was nice to finally give it a go - shows they're doing something right though I guess. It was nice to catch up with other bloggers over heck loads of champagne to see what they have ready for Spring/Summer 2015, and it was nice to have a chit chat with the St Davids stylists too. But I'll tell you what was super nice, getting an insight to what the queen of everything, Vivienne Westwood, has waiting for us.

I've always been a fan of Westwood for as long as I can remember. If you know me well in the slightest then you probably know that culture is one of my biggest fascinations, probably stems down to the degree that I am doing. Every opportunity I've had to explore this magnificent lady I have pretty much jumped on it, I feel bad for those who have had to mark my essays - "Vivienne Westwood this, Vivienne Westwood that"! She is pretty much a British cultural fashion icon who pushes boundaries and makes very bold political and cultural statements with her pieces. What a sassy gal, ey?

What I found interesting when talking to the guys from Vivienne Westwood is how easily we (especially students) get scared of price tags that come along with names like hers. When putting it into perspective though, I realised that spending £40 on a pair of jeans from Topshop which is absolute bunk quality is quite ridiculous. I could put in the extra £50 and ensure fabulous quality, oh and a designer label at the same time. All I can say is, never let the name put you off! Loads of her pieces are versatile too, she designs her stuff so garms can be warn in different ways but you can still make a statement at the same time. Oh and if you're a full on accessory junkie like me, her stuff is more than worth checking out! I have two sets of her earrings and a necklace - they are more than worth the money because I pretty much live in them! Next on the list, I'll defo be investing in one of her gems of a bag.

Hope you enjoy the snaps!

Tenkaichi Review // Oh Dear

April 16, 2014

So in many of my posts you have probably noticed how excited I have been to try out Tenkaichi. It's a modern looking Japanese restaurant on City Road within Cardiff, and it seriously draws your attention straight away. So finally we decided to give it a go, in some ways it was like my last supper before coming back to Birmingham. Being super keen, I thought it would be a great idea to book a table so we wouldn't be disappointed like last time when we were turned away.

As soon as we got there, it seemed chaotic which was not a great way to be greeted. Not only was the chaotic atmosphere off putting, but so was the fact that our booked table was completely ignored. Instead we were crammed up between other people and had to stare at our name tag on a separate table, which was soon taken up by other people. Annoyed is an understatement.

The food was fairly pricey for the location. I love bento boxes, especially from Mt Fuji and find myself paying less there. I paid £14 for my teriyaki chicken bento box and a glass of coke at Tenkaichi. I'm not the sort of girl who minds paying money like that for a decent meal and drink, if anything that is average to me. But when everything tastes like salt, the sushi is crumbling apart in my bento box and the chicken is like tough rubber I become a very unhappy girl!

Oh as well, ordering a coke seemed like a major dilemma too. The waitress came over with a beer for me and I was adamant that I didn't order one, and finally she caved in to give me a coke. Unfortunately the beer was left on the bill, and a lot of hassle was put into trying to remove it that we pretty much gave up.

Basically the moral of this post is that I was really let down by Tenkaichi which is a massive shame. It has so much potential but the whole chaotic atmosphere and lack of communication between staff is more than apparent. Safe to say I will not be visiting there again!

Bombay Bicycle Club

March 30, 2014

I can safely say that Bombay Bicycle Club have been one of my fave bands for a very long time. Every single opportunity there is to see them I cannot miss it, because they are actually brilliant live. After buying my tickets in December and waiting patiently for the day to arrive, finally it was my 5th time I was going to see the band. I was pretty much counting down the days, and nearly burst out crying from excitement the morning of the gig.

The release of their new album So Long, See you Tomorrow had me a bit nervous about the gig, and I didn't know what to expect. It has such a different sound to the rest of their stuff, and I am a huge huge fan of their old stuff. But admittedly, since the release of their new album I have had it on repeat and seriously cannot get it out of my mind. It actually goes through my head when I'm trying to sleep, it is actually that brill! You can honestly see how much they have progressed as a band, which is actually admirable when you have grown up listening to them.

Luckily and as usual, they did not disappoint. As soon as I got there I was in my element. They played so many songs off their new album and it was brilliant, and mixed it up with a few classics like Always Like This. The mixture of their songs highlight how much they have grown as a band, and so did the production of their show. The only thing I can say that shocked me about seeing them this time round was that they didn't play Ivy and Gold - one of my favourites! The set was also quite short which lasted approx about an hour which was a shame when each time I've seen them before they've been on for longer. Oh as well, the Cardiff crowd didn't seem as much into it as other crowds that I have seen Bombay with. The majority of people were stood so still!

I will defo be seeing them again as soon as they pop back on tour, and I more than recommend you give their new album a listen!

my week in photos

1) After struggling from being out the night before until 6am and a day of lectures and seminars, me and my house mate Eira decided a burrito from Mission Burrito was more than needed. Luckily our house mate Olivia drove us into town on her way to the gym, otherwise I would have just stayed in and moaned about being hungry in my hungover and tired state.
2) A cheeky little selfie before going for Nandos with Ryan and a boozy night at Bunker- Fridays are my fave! It is pop punk heaven. Original plans were to go to Tenkaichi, a lovely little place on City Road that we had been lusting over for more than a year, but unfortunately it was too packed. Maybe next time ey?
3) This is my final submission for my other blog which you can check out here if you haven't already. I thoroughly enjoy this module, Social Media Trends, and blogging was super fun. I will defo be carrying on with that blog too, it was so entertaining to find people who dressed well and lurking in different places!
4) 20 chicken nuggets? Need I say anymore? I'm a huge huge fan of chicken nuggets, especially when bbq and curry sauce is involved. Mmmm.
5) This is myself and the lovely Liam and Josie. This was such a spontaneous night out - which are always the best ones! If you fancy checking out their blogs don't be afraid to click on their names, they've become keen little bloggers now too! Especially Josie, for some reason we always find ourselves drunkenly saying we will blog about every single detail - oh dear!
6) Dominos large pizza 2 4 1. Spectacular, especially when you're a student! I opted for a vegi option this time round, but customised it with chicken and it was delightful. My mouth is watering as I'm typing this right now!

What have you all been up to this week? If you fancy looking at more don't be afraid to check out my Instagram.
p.s - This post just made me realise that I eat out way too much for a student. Woops.

bunkhouse cardiff

November 12, 2013

Bunkhouse, my future home please!

This place is amazing. It is like a beautiful little den that you can hide away in, and just chill out and avoid all your revision worries and uni stresses! It's a hostel which is pretty cool but I haven't stopped in the rooms, I literally go for a drink or two. You can pop down for a drink during the day, I opted for lemon ginger tea today it was heaven! Or pop down on the night, where its more lively with music and full of people, and treat yourself to a fruity cider or even a cheeky spirit or two. This place is up there when it comes to my favourite places, it is bliss and every time I go back, I begin to love it even more!

Chaiholics, Cardiff

October 24, 2013
After an afternoon of charity shopping with Ryan, we accidentally came across this cute little place called Chaiholics. If you know me, you know how much I enjoy a Chai Tea Latte from Starbucks/ Nero/ Costa, so to find a place that is dedicated to different types of Chai I was more than over the moon. It's located in a tiny little arcade sort of thing called the Globe on Wellfield Road, but it stands out immediately so you cannot avoid it! To begin with, we were overwhelmed by the amount of choice.  I went for the classic Masala Chai, and I do not regret my choice one bit! As weird as it sounds, it tastes so earthly and natural, not over done with sweeteners which I feel is the problem with the standard Chai from generic places. First I thought it would just be a place I would go to when it was freezing cold, but on another visit when it was relatively warm ( I know, weird for Cardiff), we came across the Iced Chai Tea's. I went for the Very Berries, which was so good that my mouth is watering whilst typing this right now. The staff and the owner made the experience here even more lovelier than a standard tea house. They talk to you on a personal level, and go through everything with you on the menu. We were also greeted with a lovely complimentary cake on our second visit from the owner, who even came over for a little chat with us because he recognised us from previous visits. Check out the website here, and just look at how amazing the menu is!
